Two natural wetlands supported eight of nine local species. Breeding was recorded at both wetland types. The emphasis of reclamation was restoring mined lands to the original land use (e.g. forestry and agriculture).

We assessed ecosystem integrity in restored prairie wetlands in eastern South Dakota, U.S.A., by examining the relationship between and diatom diversity and production. We asked three questions: (1) Is production related to species diversity? (2) Can production-diversity relationships be used to distinguish between restored and reference wetlands with the purpose of assessing ecological integrity?   Creating and Restoring Wetlands: From Theory to Practice describes the challenges and opportunities relating to the restoration of freshwater and estuarine wetlands in natural, agricultural, and urban environments in the coming century.. The underpinnings of restoration, driven by ecological (disturbance, dispersal, succession) theory, are described and applied to various activities (restoring

This Restoring prairie wetlands book links what is known about wetland ecology to the techniques commonly used to restore prairie wetlands in the USA. Individual chapters address: ecology of prairie potholes (prairie landscapes, drainage and land conversion); site selection guidelines (functional guidelines, locating restoration sites, restoration feasibility, permits), design considerations (plugging ditches and TY - BOOK.

Wetlands worldwide have been lost at an alarming rate, so there is much interest in restoring and creating them. Compared to terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, wetlands possess unique hydrology, vegetation, and soils/sediments that must be reestablished in order to restore them.
